JSR 168 missed or lacked some major features which made specification developers to think and add these features in newer version. Below are some of the important features which JSR 168 missed:
* inter-portlet communication
* portlet filters
* common support for proper web frameworks
* serving non-html resources (pdf, doc, images etc.)
